RECIPE | THE LOOSE MOUSSE

Constipation is one of the most common presentations I see in clinic. It’s not necessarily something people come in for. Instead, it’s found in thorough health reviews. It’s something I see as a root cause or sustaining factor in a lot of hormonal imbalances, gut issues (especially bloating), skin issues (like acne), and pelvic pain.

Investigations are important to understand why constipation is presenting. Though mostly, addressing adequate water and fibre intake can be all we need to get bowels moving regularly. This recipe is a really wonderful one for ‘loosening’ things up. It is high fibre, containing a beautiful balance of soluble and insoluble fibre. It is also a wonderful one for general bowel health as it has prebiotic properties to feed beneficial species. And it passes as a wonderful non-glucose spiking dessert because it’s delicious!

INGREDIENTS

Makes 4-6 serves

2 avocados
1 cup frozen mixed berries
8 prunes, pitted
¼ cup fibre mix
2 tablespoons cacao
1 tablespoon nut milk

METHOD

1. Add all ingredients into a food processor, or Thermomix. You could also use a stick blender or allow berries to melt then mush/mix really well with a fork.

2. Add into small jars or container. Pop in the fridge.

3. They probably only need an hour in the fridge, but overnight is best for the most fluffy results.

FIBRE MIX
¼ cup chia seeds
¼ cup flax seeds
¼ cup psyllium husk

To make: Blitz chia and flax seeds in a food processor, then add to psyllium husk.
Store in a jar or airtight containers in the fridge and use as required.
(1-2 tablespoons a day into smoothies, yogurt, or recipes).

Note: If you feel the mix is not sweet enough (taste test before transferring into jars), you are most welcome to add some honey or maple syrup. Small amounts of this recipe are okay for little ones (the cacao can be omitted depending on the age).
